What is it with the future and nuclear explosions in this show? Oh yeah, I forgot: spoiler alert. You know, I haven’t been crazy about the show’s direction for the past few shows, but last night’s mega-reveal fest was pretty engaging. The show has this cute, little formula: Suresh is on the verge of a scientific breakthrough, there’s some ominous cartoon drawings of the future, a trip to the future reveals that people have changed and there’ll be a horrific explosion, and then the show snaps back to the present time so that key Heroes have the rest of the season to sort it all out. I’m pretty jazzed that it all happened by episode three.
Best line: “You have the HUNGER! You’re like me.”
To start off this week’s Heroes discussion, I have this thought: No matter how rad and scary Sylar, Adam or some of the other seemingly villainous characters are, none of them are as terrifying and dangerous as Angela Petrelli. Here’s a shot of me and my little lady, enjoying the NFL game this afternoon. I can’t believe that she’s already 10 months old! And how cute is that jersey, right?
I haven’t posted much from our adventures since we got to Houston, mostly because there hasn’t been much blog-worthy stuff. Twitterable, for sure. Eliza and I have either been driving all over town looking for a place to live or watching Beverly Hills 90210 reruns on SoapNet.
Now that we locked down an apartment in “midtown” Houston, finally getting a stable internet connection, and shedding my irrational fear of the freeways - there will be much more to report. I’m taking robot photos again, and we’re getting ready for a family trip to PDX next week.
Also, the job hunt officially begins on Monday, so I’m getting my resume and reel ready to rock some faces. Wish me luck!
Okay, now that I have a handle on the whole Central time zone thing - and can actually tune into shows at the correct time - it’s time to start sharing spoiler theories with my peeps. So what do y’all think about the current season of Heroes?
To be honest, I had trouble keeping up at first. I think that letting Sylar out of the cage (and last week’s crazy revelation) give me the feeling that they’re having trouble finding new things for him to do. I kinda think he should’ve been taken down at the end of season one, like they did with each of the mini-bosses in Buffy. Thoughts? [I've embedded the show so we can easily share time codes of scenes to talk about]
Things are returning back to normal, both in my life, and with Houston following the storm. yesterday I decided to venture out to the nearest comic shop and catch up on my Skrull Invasions only to find it a category 3 mess when I peered through the shuttered windows.
Luckily, my internet connection has become more stable so it’s time to get some work done on the blogs and get a few hundred photos uploaded to Flickr. Also, I figured out what the Blackberry problem was (in case you were wondering): the Facebook application for the Berry wasn’t upgraded along with the new version of FB, so it brought everything to a halt.
Today I’m going to get some internet work done, and figure out where the Fry’s Outpost electronics store is in relation to LLR HQ. Later!
I had a personal goal of NOT using that phrase, in the near future, on any blog post about to moving Houston, Texas. However, I’m going to tap dance around that embargo by blogging about stuff that’s threatening my life, but probably would’ve happened almost anywhere in America. The first being an assault on my sense of geekish-consumer aesthetics:
I snapped the newly-released DVD cover for Al Pacino’s 88 Seconds with my Blackberry, because right away I saw it and thought, “Now where have I seen that before?” It shares a way-too-similar graphical look to several of the Bourne movies and their promotional art. I wonder if this’ll catch-on the new trend for action movie promotion (which is much better than ripping-off 24). I have a feeling I’ve seen it already with another action movie. Also, remember a few years ago when every movie poster involving fantasy or swordplay was cast in sepia tone and looked just like the Fellowship of the Ring movie poster? Clever marketing, I guess.
Anyway, the thing that’s “threatening my life” (as a nerd anyway) is the weird behavior my Blackberry has been exhibiting over the past few days. I know it’s mad about being overworked with Google Maps and all the memory intensive junk I piled on him, but did he have to take away my email? Seriously, I no longer get my email pushed to the handset, despite ‘fixing’ problem a million different ways. Anyone got an idea how to get things back to normal back without a full restore? I’m talking to you, Steven Russell.
This afternoon, I got the following Flickr message from my online pal, Zara:
“I was just browsing the weekly PostSecrets, and noticed this familiar image used on one of the cards. Thought you might be interested in seeing it. Unless of course this is one of your secrets I have stumbled upon :)”
For those of you not familiar with PostSecret, it’s a blog that displays scanned postcards sent by anonymous folks, burning to share some dark secrets in a way-too-creative method. Here’s the image (from the post) in question:
It’s definitely my photo (here’s the original), but definitely not my “post secret”. I like how it’s from the future, by the way. Does that mean that this person ended his/her engagement early? Or does it mean that she (I’m just going to assume it’s a ’she’ now) dodged the bullet of being single and finally found someone to marry, even if it is made spare parts and miscrostuffs. Thoughts? Thanks for the heads up, Z!
[Side note: people mostly steal my images for concert posters and CD covers, so this is a welcome alternative to the usual copyright infringement.]
UPDATE: Due to a database error, I've had to reinstall 18 months of Wordpress posts - which are like 65% there, but without comments and trackbacks. I'm still working on getting everything back.
