working for the weekend.
Haven’t had much to blog about lately (or I’ve been lazy), and now I’ve reached the six month point, where I suddenly have the urge to redesign my blog.
But that’ll have to wait for later, time for some geekery:
I demo’d a waterproof keyboard for my weekly “click” segment [video]. It was fun at first - soaking the keyboard in the sink, and then I realized that it was like washing dishes and the fun quickly went away.
BSG action figures are coming out soon, but the three they’ve chosen are weird. Apollo and Number Six - makes sense. But, Hot dog? WTF?
Gotta run. I have more Oblivion Gates to close.
3 commentsgreetings from Washington DC!
Ky and I spent the weekend in Washington DC, snapping pics and playing tourists. I had planned to shoot a whole mini-robot version of the “freedom costs a buck-o-five” song from Team America, but I couldn’t bring myself to be that big of jerk in front of hundreds of leather-clad Vietnam vets.

We traveled all over the place, and even got a chance to meet up with Kevin and my pals from the DC bureau.
Good times!
season finales: analog vs. digital
Tonight we were faced with a conundrum, as both the American Idol and Lost season finales overlapped, and for several reasons (both personal preference and technical) we didn’t want to flip between them or wait until the other show was over.

So my solution was to put a little analog set alongside the HDTV, so we can monitor Idol as we watched Lost. I knew the show (Idol) would be an overblown, bloated mess - only the last 10 minutes actually worth watching - but since I watched the whole season, I felt compelled to “keep an eye on it”. (Also the wife needed to watch her news, which followed Idol and also overlapped with Lost. Luckily, we could pause Lost, in case we needed to focus on the other TV…which came in handy when Fox went over eight minutes and screwed all their local affiliates on the last (and biggest) night of ratings.
I suspect “The Others” had something to do with that.
3 commentsI’m a young lad who like berries and cream.
Just taking a moment to update the blog, because if I don’t do it now I know I’ll be lazy about it until Thursday (or at least until I feel compelled to write about how rad the season finales for Heroes or Lost were). Here’s some quick, random thoughts:
Heath Ledger as the new Joker looks scary.
In local news: I went to that new restaurant, Snap Shot. Food was really good, service was kinda terrible.
In t-shirt news: the most rad shirt ever just got reprinted this week. I think I might get two - one to wear and sacrifice to the washer/dryer, and one ‘just in case’.
In
Berries and Cream news: Best commercial ever? Not sure, but I think I found an idea for my next Halloween costume [full commercial after the jump…] Starburst also made a creepy “The Little Lad Dance” video.
if a photo ever needed a caption…
..it would be this photo [below] that I found tonight on some Russian blog.

I’ll start:
“Although his siblings never treated him any differently, Carl began to have a sneaking suspiscion that he was likely adopted.”
Anyone care to give it a try?

I had a surreal moment today while covering the news: interviewing my wife at her TV station. I wish that it could’ve been about something like, “where did you get that cute skirt?” or “why don’t you like it when I play my Xbox late at night?” but, sadly that wasn’t the case here.

Myra and I were there to talk about Fox Carolina’s loss of one of the station’s nicest, and longest running news employees, Assignment Manager, Joe Loy - struck down while covering a spot news story on the interstate. He was a really friendly guy, and I remember having fun hanging out with him in Myrtle Beach last summer after the AP awards - calling upon his vast expertise in what bars and restaurants to visit.
My wife was nervous about being interviewed today, but I think she did a great job under very trying circumstances. Though she’s not alone in that, everyone at their station has shown true professionalism, humanity, and grace while carrying forward with the news, while simultaneously being at the center of it.

Losing one coworker is rough enough, and losing two of them so suddenly (photographer Cliff Cross passed away two weeks ago) is a circumstance that no newsroom would ever want to face - but something they’re now facing with unwavering fortitude.
My heart goes out to the family, friends, and coworkers of Joe Loy.
4 commentsthe monday evening post
I’m waiting to watch Heroes with my lady, so I’m doing a little blogging to pass the time. Here’s a list (in no particular order) of what’s going on in my world:
Amazon is starting to send me recommendations for stuff I’ve already purchased from them.
The Southeast Emmy nominations came out this weekend, and were very kind to me (5).
Here’s a video link to the ESP wireless story I mentioned last week.
WLOS, the ABC affiliate here finally got an HD signal on cable! Lost finale in High Def! Also, I’ve been scrutinizing the 11 frames of Jacob on the web. (Looks like Locke in a pirate outfit.)
I wonder if Steven Colbert plays LOTR online?
The Nathan Petrelli for Congress site has been “hacked”. And NBC is making another Heroes series for folks (like me) who can’t get enough.
And on a sad note: my heart goes out to the folks at Fox Carolina, who lost another friend/coworker this week. Joe Loy was a good guy, and he’ll be missed by all. [video link]

Thanks to Melinda for bringing this to my attention. The audio is the trailer for 300, the video: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Happy Friday, robots!
3 commentsthe best (flying) candidate, IMHO
With the vote just three days away (in TV time), I decided to help promote my man, Nathan Petrelli on his bid to be the next congressman of NYC by hanging campaign flyers in key locations throughout the station.

And while none of us can even vote for someone in New York - or actually vote for a fictional TV character - I still think every bit of grassroots campaigning helps. In case you also want to promote Petrelli for congress in your workplace (or wherever), there’s plenty of support materials available on his campaign website.
