The death of Loveknife Sharpnote
Tonight I made the tough decision to finally cancel my SOE account after close to seven years of online gaming adventure.
But the truth is: the adventure has been winding down for me in the SOE universe of games, and the fun has sortaa gone away. The current line of games have become increasingly disappointing, and I’ve finally come to the realization that nothing is ever going to be as awesome as the original Everquest. And now that I’ve finally pulled the plug on my account, my character of seven years, the half-elf bard Loveknife is now dead to me.
So now, I’d like for everyone to participate in a moment of silence (which you probably are already, sitting in front of your computer) for Norrath’s fallen hero - his ones and zeroes are now just dust in the wind.
For those of you who haven’t been mesmerized by MMORPG games, it’s hard to explain how attached you get to these virtual people and their gear. I quested my ass off for all the armor on my bard, and I worked equally hard for the money I spent on eBay to get him a fancy “werewolf lute”, as well.
Here’s two screenshots of LK back before they upgraded the graphics engine. This shot is of Loveknife sporting a some shiny new armor, and was taken moments before he was mezzed by a goblin shaman and then ganked by a slime monster as he tried to get away.
Here’s the oldest recorded screenshot of Loveknife. He’s only level 5, and is wearing a shitty bronze breastplate and banded pants. But he didn’t care, he was jamming out in the center of North Freeport market for everyone.
I have a feeling that someday I might end up back in Norrath, but it’s going to be much colder place without Loveknife and all my dungeon pals.

I’m sure Loveknife and Hassor are running around Norrath Heaven right now, slaying angelic rats and orcs, having the best of times.
Actually, Hassor … Pation and Loveknife are running around Norrath Heaven, wondering where Hassor is, since he said he was going to show up and group with them.

Yeah, that iPhone kid is either gonna get a ton of cool job offers or a not-so-cool lawsuit for breaking the EULA on the device. It’d be a crappy move to sue a kid, but with all these phone exclusivity deals going on, i gould see that happening.
But it’s Apple, so they’ll probably laugh and buy the kid an iPhone. Microsoft would tear that kids ass apart in court.
I too have known the heartbreak that comes from severing the link to Norrath, but I did it with EQ1. Some time after Scars of Velious came out, I realized that I wasn’t the kind of gamer that could really make it in that world, and my Shadow Knight, Lothorn Lightslayer was no more. You’ll get through it. Just think about all the times SOE screwed you, heh.
