Don’t call him a tomato!

Posted on September 13, 2007

Today, while out shooting at a highly-competetive press conference (involving children, balloons, and anthropomorphic produce) I ran across a rival photographer. Although I gotta admit, she was rather friendly. And it turns out that she is, in fact, my internet-friend Mindy who I started chatting with on MySpace several months back and have never actually met. As fate would have it, she now works in the market and is thus my mortal enemy.

We took a moment to pose with a neutral party, although both of us were still “fronting” trying to look “bad ass.”

That’s an apple that we’re posing with in this photo, by the way (not a tomato). Also, it’s kinda hard to look “bad ass” in a photo with a giant creepy cartoon apple. Read more

The Antidote: my exclusive 1999 review.

Posted on September 12, 2007

Let me take you back to the summer of ‘99. The KPTV newsroom was short staffed, yet we were photog heavy at the time. And on one sunny afternoon, while we were in the afternoon editorial meeting, the assignment manager decided to try an experiment. She paired me up with a photographer (Jon Gudgel), and had me play reporter. Of course, this crew didn’t cover any real news, like city meetings or curbside homicides. Instead, we covered “summer karate movie camp”:

That’s what I look like before I used to wear my glasses all the time (although I was supposed to, considering I couldn’t read street signs very well). And it’s kinda weird to watch it now that I actually do that kind of stuff now on TV. *sigh* I love finding crazy stuff to add to the LLR video vault. Hopefully I find my tape from the seventh grade where my brother, Tater and I dress up like aliens and host an intergalactic talk show.

Yeah. It’s that time again.

This is the part where I tell you that I got all antsy and changed my blog template. I think I’ve written this exact blog post at least a dozen times now, and hopefully, you won’t see one for a long time. Instead, I’ll probably just swap out the masthead. Anyway, expect some glitches, or possibly even some pleasant surprises over the next week as I move into my new place.

Xbox: deforming a nation of thumbs.

Posted on September 10, 2007

I got one of my most anticipated gadgets in the mail this afternoon: my Xbox Live Messenger Kit. It’s basically a qwerty keyboard attachment for the existing game controller - which makes it feel like fifty pounds, by the way.

qwerty_bitch.jpg

It’s not that I’m all excited that I can now IM people over my Xbox while I play Oblivion, but rather all of the other weird ways it’ll come in handy. Like the fact that some of my online roleplaying games for the PC may support the controller, and thus eliminating the need for me to even wield a keyboard with this thing attached. At the very least, I won’t have to type any more game codes into the Live console - that alone is worth the $25.

Looking at one year ago today…

Posted on September 9, 2007

This weekend marks the one year anniversary of me and Kyann’s wedding. We celebrated by getting out of town, heading down to Atlanta and went shopping, dining and relaxing. It was so nice to get of town and have a little break - even after just getting back from having a previous out of town break. Anyway, I just got done looking back through our million wedding photos and realized that I never actually posted any of the super-rad professional ones. Here’s two of my favorites:

This one is of the wife and I, posing with the Polaroid snapshots we took of each other, just a moment before.

And here’s a shot of me having a fun toast with the LXD, my west coast peeps, whom I miss terribly. Most of us were drinking McMenamin’s Ruby Red beer which I miss terribly, as well.

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year!

I’m feeling less motivated already!

Posted on September 5, 2007

I have a problem when I get in front of my laptop. All productivity goes out the window as I end up chatting on IM and surfing random blogs all night. In an effort to help out, my pal Melinda sent me a link to this motivational poster creator - which actually has only led me down a path of complete and total unproductivity. Unless you count the random posters I’ve been making! Here’s my first effort:

I’ve always loved those crappy motivational posters, and I plan on making/printing some up for around the office (I’m taking photos tomorrow). The best part: the program links up to your Flickr account, so you can upload/download stuff to your account.

Hasser gets the “red ring of death” already!

Posted on September 5, 2007

I feel really bad for my pal Hasser, who I really gave the hard sell on “why I think (he) should get and Xbox 360″ over instant messenger for the past two months. Well, just under two weeks ago he broke down and finally purchased one - and we’ve been tearing up some virtual ass in Crackdown and Gears of War ever since. That is, until tragedy struck…

I hope he gets that box back soon! I want to play more Carcassonne!

I also plan on sacrificing a goat on my Xbox 360 in hopes of appeasing the Hindu god of video gaming, allowing me to play red-ring-free for a long time to come.

And they say we look nothing alike!

Posted on September 4, 2007

It’s not uncommon to hear someone say something about how my brother Tater and I look nothing alike. We get that all the time.

shotgun_bros.jpg

But with both of us brandishing shotguns at this weekend’s family reunion, I think the resemblance is definitely there. Anyway, I had a swell time in mountains and took a ton of photos, some of which I’ll be throwing onto my Flickr account tomorrow. Right now, I’m gonna get caught up on my shows and get some sleep.

Some call it Applejack’s Liquor store…

…I call it heaven. Beer heaven.

Or better yet, “Beerheaven”. That’s a wicked cool band name right there.
