This afternoon I was the photographer assigned to shoot the live “Geoff on the Road” segments - this week he went to the local Table Tennis Club. I can’t remember what the exact name of their league was, but I do know that they go apeshit on anyone that accidentally calls it “ping pong”, rather than “table tennis.” And, I admit it was fun watching them cringe every time our field producer, Amanda called it by the wrong name.
It was scary how good they all were at the game, and it was kinda awesome how the whole crew seemed like they stepped right out of a movie about ping pong table tennis. Despite their intimidating athletic prowess, Amanda and I decided to face off against two of their more savage players.
After we took the photo, the mini-tennis nerds were quick to point out that we should be immediately disqualified for putting our arms on the table before the serve. Either they didn’t want their children players to face our devastating serve, or they got their little revenge on us for repeatedly saying PING PONG.

I don’t want to share any spoilers or anything, but here’s a screenshot from the upcoming Halo 4 game. This time the Master Chief teams up with a plucky comic sidekick to take down an Asian Triad gang and save a kidnapped child. I’ll be honest, much of the story has been copied from the Rush Hour movie franchise.
Anyway, when I saw that the Chief was on display in Vegas I was thrilled, but kept my geekiness in check until the right moment. And as soon as we got close enough to the Venetian I suddenly went, “Hold on, everybody! I have to do something” and ran off to get my photo. Also, the Chief was really nice in person, but that Cortana was a real bitch.
Side story: The movie studio folks are pointing fingers at Halo 3 as the reason the new Ben Stiller movie tanked at the box office. [insert crybaby sound efx here]

Today’s assignment had Valdez and I reporting on a local charity golf tournament, which was a nice way to start a Monday. There’s plenty of action to shoot and decent amount of nat sound from people swatting golf balls or yelling in anger, throwing their clubs. Of course, my favorite part about shooting on the golf courses is getting to drive around in the electric carts.
However, it wasn’t all that fun today when our cart ran out of power going up a hill (it looks way more steep in the photo) and we were forced to ditch it and walk back across the course under the murderous, raging sun. I have some great video of the cart stalling on Jennifer, and hopefully I’ll have a chance to post it tomorrow.
