2008 shooting assignment #81
Today’s shooting assignment took me to the sleepy, little town of Jonesville to shoot video of a controversial church sign. The pastor wanted to call attention to the fact that Barack Obama has a similar last name to Osama Bin Laden’s first name - a similarity that perhaps makes him a Muslim, despite the fact he’s a practicing Christian and has denounced the Muslim claim about a trillion times.

To my surprise, many of the church’s neighbors found the sign offensive, and one lady even asserted, “No, I don’t think that they are brothers.” Personally, I find the sign offensive on several levels, and many for reasons of bad grammar and punctuation. Perhaps the pastor doesn’t have a question mark tablet. I’ll let that one pass. But, “Humm?” Pretty weak. [All that said, the pastor was a really nice guy and we were thankful he granted us an interview.]

they should lose their tax exempt status.
Story got picked up by drudge. should be gettin some good hits at WYFF.
Cale: “Amen” on the loss of their tax exempt status. (Sorry, it couldn’t be helped)
Southern Bab-dist churches are infamous for preaching politics from the pulpit. I’d love to see some intrepid reporter, and their trusty photog sidekick, with glasses and spikey-ish hair, gets some church busted by the IRS.
What’s that smell?!? I think I smell “sweeps” getting closer… hmmmm… *BING!* (lightbulb turning on)
@matt: now that would be fun for sweeps. We were joking about me having a franchise where all you see is my arm (holding a microphone) sticking out from behind the camera, grilling people on stuff.
Hey I shot that sign too…
@Kris
(You might’ve shot it a day before me…shhh…)

“The Long Arm of Truthiness”
…a really nice guy to YOU, members of the media. That is not something a REALLY nice guy would do. That’s something a really ignorant, arrogant, hate/fear-monger would do. It’s hard to stomach that sometimes in order to complete an assignment. It sucks to have to turn off your head.
I’m cranky today. That makes me hate where I live. Can you tell?
@student
Baker, you know I can’t really say everything I’m really thinking when I write these posts. Corporate overlords, man. But, yeah I can say it makes me hate where I live sometimes, as well.
OT but shooting related:

Totally feel ya, man. Been there. Done that. That’s why I said it for you in your comments.
I was blogless when I worked for The Man, and that is precisely why. No need to get fired over thoughts about truth and justice.
You do a good job of walking the very fine line. I got really tired of that after 14 years in the business. Being a highly paid, highly respected (ha!) stay-at-home mom has its perks. I can finally say what I really think!
