Okay, so I’m back. I’ve been on a blogging vacation – mainly to figure out what to do with my site in the wake of my two database crashes in the past year. I’ve been fearful of posting too much stuff, or working too hard on my template, only to lose it all again. Not to mention the fact that Wordpress and my theme, Thesis are constantly pumping out new versions (though that’s not necessarily a bad thing).
I was toying with the idea of just converting my blog to a Tumblr blog (littlelostrobot.tumblr.com), but I’ll lose some functionality along the way. Also, Tumblr and Flickr haven’t exchanged APIs yet, which was the deal breaker for me. I think I liked the idea of going to Tumblr because it’s part of that whole ‘follow culture’ that’s going on right now….which is partly to blame in my lack of motivation.
I’m finding it hard to update my blog, and follow/comment on other blogs when everything is cross broadcast through Twitter and Facebook. Anyone else feeling that way? Well, I’ve decided to get back on the blog. I just have too much cool stuff to post this summer. I’m not sure about going back and restoring old posts though, but I’m going to syndicate all my WP posts to my Tumblr page so that I’ll have somewhere to go if everything implodes again.
Anyway, I’ll end this with a question to y’all. Do you still read blogs, or as many blogs?

I think I probably read more individual blog posts, but find content through twitter and facebook instead of just straight-up reading blogs. Twitter especially works like little teaser promos for blog posts, so I can see if I’m interested before I click. This may also be a function of having less time to straight-up “surf” due to the kid, and having to rely on my blackberry stay in touch now instead.
I think blogs are going the way of the telegraph.
And by that I mean they serve a purpose in that they deliver information. But this new thing called the telephone (twitter/facebook) make communicating more personal.
No wait… I think blogs are going the way of the land line telephone.
And by that I mean they serve a purpose in that you can communicate with people. But they’re clunky and kind of home based. But these new things called cell phones (twitter/facebook) are much more portable.
No wait… I don’t know what I mean after all.
This would all make so much more sense to me if I knew how to read.
I didnt connect my facebook/twitter/blog. There are things I do not want Everyone to know
Plus if I feel everyone is watching my blog I do not post as personal. I hate the thought of blogs being ‘lost’ – this also makes people less personal on them.
This is one of about four blogs I read; I just check in on it every three or four days.
I use bloglines to see who has updated and scan the title and first paragraph. If I am interested, I will go to the blog to read it. I do check 3 University of Georgia sports blogs everyday.
Hasser,
I think what you mean is that that twitter and facebook make communicating with the people around us less personal, while making communicating with people across the country or the world more personal. Or at least, that is what I have found.
