Been having Wordpress problems.

I’ve come to realize that no content management system is perfect for all the exact things I want to do with my blog, and while screwing around with the internal Wordpress stuff, I accidentally locked myself out of my blog admin panel. I’m back, and hoping to get the bugs under control. While I’m at it, I’ll be changing up my page (probably to a single column look). Anyway, I guess I’m writing this blog post to say that I’m updating my blog. Lame.

Also, I’ve been thinking of using Tumblr, but I hate to deal with the past five years of archive posts.

UPDATE: I’ve kinda locked down a template and sticking with it. I gain more room on the blog posts and can free up alot of the clutter that made me hate looking at the site everyday. I’ve got more features to come (mainly feeds from my other projects), so stay tuned.

PHP is now my new nemesis.

I’m working on getting away from the last template, and getting back to my black background. Also, this template will allow me to take my plugins and blogging potential a step further. The header image is chosen randomly, and one or two of the images don’t look so hot now that I see how they flow with the page - others, like the images of my glasses might seem freakishly large, staring back at you if your native monitor resolution is 1024 or lower. I kinda like that.

Why the sudden redesign? Apart from the fact that i do this every 4-6 months, I had a blogging intervention from my pal Stone. He informed me that my template was too conservative and boring. He also mentioned that I need to blog more (which is probably true).

Yeah. It’s that time again.

This is the part where I tell you that I got all antsy and changed my blog template. I think I’ve written this exact blog post at least a dozen times now, and hopefully, you won’t see one for a long time. Instead, I’ll probably just swap out the masthead. Anyway, expect some glitches, or possibly even some pleasant surprises over the next week as I move into my new place.

Have I mentioned my minor obsession with Publix Diet Sweet Tea? Well, the folks at the grocery store have definitely taken notice. I went in there this afternoon and right away I was jumped by the staff. “Did you get my email? I’ve been emailing you!” one of the clerks exclaimed the moment I stepped through the door. Apparently some of the deli staff conspired to hold a case of iced tea for me and I luckily showed up moments before they would’ve had to put it out on the shelves.

It’s good to know the deli gang has got my back (and now somehow got my email address).

The other cool thing today, actually happened at like 2am when I was randomly buying more domain names to add to my collection. I checked to see if my name was available - which it hasn’t been for at least seven years - and it was finally free! So now instead of some lame-ass company that parks hundreds of domain names, it actually belongs to a JL Watkins.

Here are things I’m thinking about, none of them long enough to warrant their own blog post.

Despite the reviews, I loved Blades of Glory.
I never liked Don Imus.
Windows Vista is really starting to bum me out.
Waiting two more weeks for Heroes to return is killing me.
Melinda Dolittle is my favorite Idol by far.
I’ve started writing a novel this past week.
I was surprised that either guy was the father of ANS’s baby.
I like my station’s faster paced newscasts.
I’m furious about getting outbid on awesome robot stuff on eBay.
I never thought I’d subscribe to the Thunderbolts.
Jericho is getting pretty good.
I could watch this video all day.
The new LCD Soundsystem album is rad.
I’m considering buying LOTR online.
I’ll be doing some stuff at NAB for/with b-roll.net.
I keep forgetting to Twitter.

I desperately need a haircut.

This is obviously a ‘before I get ready’ photo. Luckily I still have enough “product” (hair gel, paste, etc) to keep me looking like someone who styled his hair all insane, rather than someone who doesn’t and then seems a different sort of crazy.

Just one more thing to get done before I leave for NAB this weekend. That, or buy more hair gel, I suppose.

Also, today marks the official departure from the “one word blog post titles” that I’ve been doing for the past few years. Time for something new. [That something new, being: sentences.

My laptop might be wrecked (iced tea spill), but all is not lost. I’m rather certain that the damage is just limited to the LCD screen - although that really sucks for a laptop, you know? Anyway, thanks to a this handy device that I got from the station IT guy -which It just plugs into the USB port - I’m able to get all the data off my drive.

Well, not all the data - I’m still fighting my own password protected folders to get at some of the info, but it’s only a matter of time until I give up. Until then, I plan on keeping positive and exorcising my demons through my weekly “click” segment [video link].

[I woke up and looked over this post and realized that I wrote “exercising my demons” rather than “exorcising my demons” which conjurs up a hilarious image, no doubt - and would make a really sweet sitcom about former hellspawn that retire to earth and run a fitness center (hilarity ensues). I’m writing the pilot right now.]

Okay, so I’ve installed the new site banner - which will replaced by a full color version in a few weeks - and I’m gonna be making minor changes here and there each day for the next week or so (spring cleaning, if you will). I decided to devote some attention to my site since my home PC only stays on for ninety seconds before shutting down. Maybe it’s sign that I should be doing something other than playing Vanguard. Or perhaps my new Xbox 360 has asserted itself over the other electronics in the room- much like a new prison inmate, sticking a shiv in the biggest inmate in the yard.

I was gonna wait and unveil my new (and soon to be permanent) site banner when it’s all finished and ready to put up on the site, but instead I thought that it’d be cool show off a little preview sketch.

The layout sketch is rough, so in case you couldn’t tell: involves robots, aliens, zombies and my Sony XDCAM.
