Been having Wordpress problems.

I’ve come to realize that no content management system is perfect for all the exact things I want to do with my blog, and while screwing around with the internal Wordpress stuff, I accidentally locked myself out of my blog admin panel. I’m back, and hoping to get the bugs under control. While I’m at it, I’ll be changing up my page (probably to a single column look). Anyway, I guess I’m writing this blog post to say that I’m updating my blog. Lame.

Also, I’ve been thinking of using Tumblr, but I hate to deal with the past five years of archive posts.

UPDATE: I’ve kinda locked down a template and sticking with it. I gain more room on the blog posts and can free up alot of the clutter that made me hate looking at the site everyday. I’ve got more features to come (mainly feeds from my other projects), so stay tuned.

Thanks to all my robot peeps!

Below is a photo showing off an assortment of the supremely awesome robot baby gear that folks have been sending the babybot, Eliza.

robot_baby_clothes.jpg

Thanks y’all. I promise to have a baby fashion show at some point, but she has some growing to before manysome of these things will fit. Speaking of growing up: I still haven’t started preparing for the awkward, “No you don’t touch the tin robots. Those are daddy’s robots” friendly-scolding that’s sure to happen at some point.

[UPDATE: Just got a cute robot rug from Reaves! Thanks, man.]

Sneak peek at a random project.

It’s still in the early pre-production stages, but here’s a reel of test composite shots for a webisode project that my buddies Benji, James and I are casually working on. I don’t have many other details to give right now, apart from the mention that I’ll be playing a guy that’s only 3.5 inches tall. Have I ever mentioned my obsession with Gulliver’s Travels, The Littles, The Borrowers, and other things of that tiny folk sub-genre? Seriously. I eve have elaborate plans for a MMO game based on tiny people living in walls. But, I digress…here’s the clip:

I know - I did a really bad job doing the chroma composite lighting, but we just wanted to run a few test shots. The ‘mini-series’ (ha ha) still doesn’t have an official title, but we’re hoping to get to work on it sometime this summer.

Out walking the robo-dog.

I’ve had a rather relaxing three day weekend hanging out with the wife and baby, and ending with me crawling around on the ground taking some fun robot photos.

It’s been a while since I started snapping new robot pics for my collection (you know, I’ve been mostly taking baby photos these days). I got a new digital SLR camera this weekend, so I figured it was time to get snapping!

My Wii thinks I’m going to die soon.

Ky and I purchased the new pseudo-game, Wii Fit today, and I’ve been anxious all night finally play it (we had to wait until Idol was over). It’s fun - and like other Wii titles - a welcome departure from other console games. However, that’s once you get past the scary part: weighing in.

wii_fit1.jpg

I have no illusions that I’m slender or athletic, but my Nintendo thinks I’m approaching morbidly obese. Although it was very polite in telling me that, even as it plumped up my little on-screen avatar. Also, it calculated my “Wii Age” at 46 - that’s 12 years over my human age (and 84 dog years…if anyone’s counting).

wii_fit2.jpg

My wife was laughing at me the entire time I ran through the profile setup. That was, until I said, “Okay, it’s your turn now!” to which she quickly responded, “I’ll do it, but the results aren’t going on your blog.” (While I can’t get into specific numbers, she got a very decent rating). The “game” then had us make weight goals and told us to weigh-in occasionally or else our lives are in peril. Perhaps it’s a mixed message to be told “you fat, you need to play more video games” but I’ll gladly heed that advice.

I’ll report back in a few weeks with my progress and a full review of what it’s like to play a game on a controller that resembles a bathroom scale.

I’ve received several rad emails today…

…and many of them were remarking about the newly minted blog, Elizawatkins.com. That’s right: my baby daughter has a blog now! It’s mainly for family and friends to see photos and videos of our baby slobbering or laughing wildly for no apparent reason. I can’t believe I was able to restrain myself a whole week before setting her up with a website.

Other rad emails today include:

1. First Hasser rocked my face with some of his junk, and today he’d blasted my inbox with something awesome (hmm…now that’s a curious sentence to read out loud). Let me try that again. He sent me the following message: “So I downloaded this kickass music composition/mixing/crazyass programs called FL Studio 8. I’ve been fussing around with it trying to figure out the ins and outs. I just made a little song to test my abilities, and I think you’ll like it! It’s at least worth a chuckle!” Here’s the attachment: robot.mp3.

2. Melinda passed along the link to a promotional video for Nikko Electronic’s R2D2 video projector. I have to admit: the video is strangely hypnotic. But at some point the spell broke, and I began questioning how this seemingly wealthy guy in the video only has an R2D2 dvd player in his living room to watch videos on.

3. I also got some in-game rewards keys for the Age of Conan MMO, which I haven’t decided if I’m going to play yet. Anyone try it out?

2008 shooting assignment #88

My first day back at work after a nice, relaxing week off had me shooting story about a new downtown business aimed at helping people relax. The real attraction of the Healthy Lounge are the massive massage chairs (which sorta remind me of Darth Vader’s relaxation chamber in ESB), but the gimmick that gets people through the door is the oxygen bar [video]

citrus_air.jpg

The oxygen is available in a variety of flavors, and Beth and I both chose to inhale the citrus enhanced flavor - which supposedly feels invigorating. Maybe I didn’t “do enough” O2 because when we left the place a few moments later, I felt horribly nauseous (and kinda thirsty for lemonade). I’m glad I didn’t like it. I’ve always been kinda hesitant to have oxygen - even in Vegas where I’ve done all kinds of crazy shit - because I didn’t want to all of a sudden realize I like snorting air and paying for it.

Heading back to work today.

My week off for “baby time” comes to an end on Monday morning when I head off to work. Here are a few non-baby-related items I have on my mind this Sunday evening:
1. Desperate Housewives has started doing flash forwards into the future of the characters - sorta like Lost. Unlike Lost, they weren’t all that interesting.
2. After watching all the BSG episodes in my Tivo (and some extensive online research) I’m thinking that the final cylon is Lee Adama.
3. I’m hoping to incorporate my newly found love of daytime naps into my workday somehow.

She has my eyes, don’t you think?

Or perhaps it’s just the fashionable eyewear.
